The 3 zones for a long and narrow living space

This post is here to help you maximize that long and narrow living space that you just can’t figure out

Do you have a long narrow living or family room ? Do you feel like nothing fit’s right in your room ? Does your living room feel crowded?

I am here to help !

When laying furniture out in a long narrow living area there are 3 zones to remember when building an inclusive space. It’s important to get everyone to gravitate to the living room. It’s the one place in a home where everyone comes to relax, catch up and take a load off at any point in the day.

The 3 zones to define a long narrow living area are in this order. The quiet zone, the media zone and what I like to call the games night zone. When space planning a living area I always try to keep this order leaving the media zone in the center of the room. This leaves small areas for accent furniture at both ends of the room without completely cluttering. But will also allow the room to tell a story.

  1. The quiet zone would typically include 2 accent chairs, end table or floor lamp. This is a great spot for reading, sipping coffee or studying.

  2. The media zone sits in the center of the room to bring everyone together. This spot would typically have your tv with either Sofas loveseats or sectionals.

  3. The games night zone. My favorite! Depending on how long your living room is I would suggest doing this third zone. For a smaller space this would include 2 chairs and a table for chess/ checkers or for a longer space, I would suggest a counter or bar height table of 4 to 6 seats for more game play. For some this zone might not be for gaming it might be a separate casual dining space where everyone comes together.
